Is my husband elegible to apply for U visa

I have a question, my husband was on his way home from work when a gang of 20 guys in ski masks stopped his car and opened his door .. beat him up .. took his wallet, money, car keys, iphone ... he was bleeding from his nose and mouth ..
he didn't go to work few days and took over the counter pain killers because he didnt want medical bills.

He went to file police report same day incident happened and helped the detective with investigation, however .. the gang was never arrested. But my husband did as much as he could to help with investigation.

My question is does he have a valid case to apply U Visa....?

Also, is it better to apply for spouse at same time or after he is approved?

How long will it take if we apply now to receiving work permit at least?

Your case is strong, you are definitely eligible for U visa.. It might take at least 3-4 years to get deferred action. It's always good idea to apply with derivatives.

Thank you ..what can we do before the defered action? Any way to appply for work permit while we wait?
