  • Can you fly domestic with expired ID / DL ?

    Hi
I've an expired Driver License ( expired 10th April 2017) and need to know if I can fly domestic with expired DL. I've Expired EAD and DA EAD renewal application submitted long time ago. I did research online and found out usually TSA let you fly with expired license up to 1 year. But before I put myself in trouble I think I should ask for any one having any kind of knowledge or personal experience. My Indian passport is about to expire as well but I don't have a valid Visa on it.

Worst case if I can board Amtrak train with expired Drive License ?

    U-Visa Receipt date : April 14 2014
    DA EAD : April 10 2015
    Renewal DA EAD : Dec 16 2016

Waiting for 4 years EAD / DA EAD renewal ( which ever comes first)

    Thanks

Don't have a valid Visa at the moment. What if they check my visa?

I asked TSA on twitter @AskTSA and got this reply.

Thanks for reaching out, Cxxxxxxxxx. An expired driver's license isn't valid as a primary form of ID at airport security checkpoints. However, it may be used as a supporting document, along with another form of ID that contains identifying information, such as your name, photo, address, phone number, social security number, or date of birth. You may also be asked to participate in the identity verification process. For more info on the process and to see a list of other valid forms of ID, please visit: http://bit.ly/1MKZXkb

        Thanks! -Josh

          Hi,

For domestic flying you do not need visa. They do not check your passport if you have valid visa or not. You just need active passport for identification purpose. I suggest not to fly as the this is dark time for immigrants in this country right now. try using bus or train, I know its a time consuming but safer.

Thanks. I'm leaning towards going in train as well. My gut feelings are saying wait till i get the license renewed.

I spoke to my attorney as promised
and He said that it's not any problem to fly domestically. Carry your valid passport and DA Notice. If any of you have attorney then before flying do let them know about your Dates of travel and location.
                Hope that helps you.
